I've been to Bali Hai a couple times in the past and it's a great place to take people from out of town. Located at Shelter Island, the whole wall is glass so it looks over the water and you can see the lights and buildings of what I think is downtown (I don't really have any sense of direction, but rest assured, it's a scenic view.) I’ve noticed there is always a wedding reception taking place each time I visit, so that should be proof of how beautiful and romantic this place is!

They are also known by locals for having the stiffest and most delicious Mai Tais around - just be careful because they are strong!! And the food ain't bad either! Think Hawaiian food / Asian Fusion. Last time I dined, I believe an entree included a soup and salad to start. But regardless of what you order for your main course, don’t forget their famous Mai Tai!
Pros: Beautiful views, courteous staff, best Mai Tais in town
Price Range: $10 - $25

I have been to Bali Hai twice last year and I have to say that my second time was as pleasant as the first. The Mai Tai's are where it's at. You can't beat the location. You can see the downtown San Diego sky scrapers from here.
Pros: Great View, Good Food
Cons: None
Price Range: $1 - $5
Recommended: Yes

It's all about the Mai Tai's! If you have two you will be off to a great start for the evening. It is located on the water with views of downtown and Coronado Island.
Pros: Mai Tai's are great and the view is amazing.

Have been going to this restaurant since 1979. It used to be quite nice and the view is really worth the visit. However, the food and service have truly suffered over the years. I do remcommed one visit, perhaps for a cocktail and appitizer in order to see one of the best views of San Diego harbor. Perhaps if enough people complain the management will try to recapture the old days (about 10 years ago)
. The service has also become 'run of the mill' while the prices have increased substantially. The place could use the help of Chef Ramsey (BBC)

A must visit for a San Diego trip....
The Bali-Hai transforms in to the "mai tai' Village" every Friday and Saturday night at 9:00 - 11:00. Go for one mai tai's let it settle and have another. They have a Absolute mai tai's for the Rum impaired. Call a taxi home. ...
