Cool exhibitions
This is a very cool museum dedicated to "collect, preserve, interpret and communicate" things man does. Their permanent exhibitions, like Ancient Egypt, Maya: Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth, Kumeyaay: Native Californians and Footsteps Through Time: Four million years of Human Evolution are great things to look at over and over again and still find something new.

Right now, they have an exhibition about games and they even have a table where four people can sit and play without having to be quiet. This museum is meant for people to talk, touch as well as look at things. They are now advertising a new exhibit, Strange Bones: Curiosities of the Human Skeleton which will start at the end of October.

Great museum
The Museum of Man is, for me, the best museum in Balboa Park. They always seem to be having an interesting main exhibit. Having museums with these types of exhibits is a wonderful perk of living in a big city like San Diego. The building itself is worthy of being a museum, it has really beautiful architecture with intricate carvings. One of the top exhibits I have seen there was about the art of tattooing. It showed the history and the real art and culture that there is behind the phenomenon of tattoos It was very informative but also kept your interest. They also had other ongoing exhibits displayed at the same time. If I only had one day to go to Balboa Park I would make sure to stop at this museum.

San Diego's only museum devoted to anthropology
We went to see the Mummy Exhibit. The highlight was a modern day mummy preserved from a 70-year-old man who donated his body to science in the mid-1990s. There is a Mummy Lecture series starting in October 2011 we look forward to attending too. This is a beautiful and historic museum located beneath the ornate 200-foot California Tower at Balboa Park.
Membership is affordable and starts at $20 a year for students and $60 for families. They also have unique gift ideas in the museum store.
