I'm sure that I would love this place even more if I hadn't just been in New York City eating tons of pizza. It's not quite as good as what you find in NYC but if you like that style of pizza, it's the best in San Diego. We came for an early lunch on a Saturday and I was shocked that there was plenty of seating. They have all sorts of pizzas on display in the case, we picked a variety of slices to try. All were good. There was one with spinach and ricotta though that we all loved. They have a great selection of German beer and a few other beers on draft. The guy behind the counter was very patient with our slow ordering. We couldn't make up our minds. We will definitely be back. Oh and it was pretty inexpensive.

Can't believe I've been living in Golden Hills so long and never been to Pizzeria Luigi's...it's just great. They have the thin NY style pizza which you can order by the slice. Normally 2 slices are more than enough. The taste is great and they have plenty of areas to sit inside the restaurant and outside in picnic tables.

They only take cash and you might have problems with the street parking. But its well worth it.

I was born in the Bronx and I know my Pizza. I've had so many people say - Oh you'll love it, it's New York Pizza. Even Guy Fieri proclaimed it the best Pizza in San Diego.

Started going here last year and I will admit - It's great Pizza. Not John's or Lombardi's (IF YOU DON'T KNOW, JUST ASK!)

Quality ingredients and an owner who knows what he's doing equals my favorite Pizza in town.

pros: the pizza. the roasted garlic & sundried tomato pizza and the jalepeno & pineapple pizza were pretty tasty. I am a fan of flat crusted pizzas. it's probably just as good as bronx pizza, which is one of my favorite pizza joints in san diego.

cons: cash only. and they definitely need to improve their customer service. we waited in front of the register for awhile as the guy behind the counter did pretty much everything else before serving us.. like he's too cool to serve us or something. pshhh i also think their pizzas are a little overpriced.

we ordered 2 pizza pies on the phone, and hoped it would be ready by the time we got there to pick it up. we got there...CASH ONLY....so we left, then came back with cash.

the handlebar moustached hipster seemed unwilling to serve us...and made us wait before picking up our order. maybe he doesn't work there, but has a weird preference to hang out behind counters?

anyway...we got home and apparently pizza pies are not pies at all...but regular pizzas? they should just call them PIZZAS. the pizzas themselves didn't "wow" me...felt like a huge waste of $30 for two pizzas. i'd be down to come in for a slice if i'm in the area....but i don't think i'll ever be ordering from pizzeria luigi again...especially when little ceasars pizzas are $5 and taste much better.
